Our Store, Our Story
For seven generations, a shop has sat on the site of Carl’s Store, in the heart of Tusket, Nova Scotia. In the mid-nineteenth century, a family of shipbuilders created a store on this property to support the nearby shipyard. Decades passed, and by the 1950s the building had evolved into a general store. Then along came Carl.

As a child in the 1950s, Carl watched as this old property evolved into a general store. In 1983, Carl purchased the property and continued the general store tradition. The store became Carl’s Store. At first, this store was very small, but through many renovations and extensions, Carl’s Store was shaped into the beloved part of the community it is today. Serving not only Tusket but the surrounding areas, locals consider Carl’s Store as integral to the identity of the area.

In 2014, Carl purchased a general store in Wedgeport, Nova Scotia and established La Shoppe à Carl, an exciting step into the heart of the Acadian community. La Shoppe à Carl is a general store with a bakery and take out, providing daily lunch specials, weekend dinner deals, and great quality food to local families and fishermen.
La Shoppe à Carl and Carl’s Store’s relationship means you can find delicious baked goods, savoury in-store marinated meats, excellent service, and just about anything else in both Wedgeport and Tusket.

“When you have a happy atmosphere,

Today, Carl’s Store and La Shoppe à Carl are operated by the Bourque family and the Muise-Bourque family, who continue the Carl’s Store values of supporting local, supporting community, and supporting families across Yarmouth and Argyle Counties.
